BUDDHA’S DAY & MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL
Golden square car park, MAY 2022

a CELEBRATION. A CEREMONY. A FESTIVAL.

One of Melbourne’s longest-standing multicultural events, the Buddha’s Day & Multicultural Festival organised by Buddha’s Light International Association of Victoria (BLIAV) not only commemorates the birth of Buddha but also celebrates Melbourne’s diverse multicultural community. For the 2022 Festival whose theme was Wisdom & Innovation, Festival organisers transformed multiple Golden Events’ sites into a joyous celebration. Featuring traditional Buddhist ceremonies, immersive digital experiences, lantern installations, an augmented reality art exhibition, and a digital museum commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Buddha’s Light International Association.

A centrepiece of the Festival was the five-storey-tall Bodhi Tree Mural painted by Melbourne’s street artists Mike Maka & Conrad Bizjak. Each night the mural was brought to life with a stunning mapped projection created by internationally renowned studio, Artists in Motion. The Bodhi Tree Mural remains a proud legacy and is fast becoming a landmark mural of the Melbourne CBD.
